you've heard of sock blanks...

This is a mitten blank. It's from Wellington Fibres, one of my favourite places. They came to our Guild meeting this month, and on top of the one box of curly locks that I bought (white) and one I ordered (grey), I also picked up this wonderful mitten blank, hand-dyed by Donna. I can't wait to see how it knits up! It's a super soft 50/50 blend of mohair and wool, and I just fell in love with the colours. Donna does some incredible work with dyes - if you are ever in the Elora area, it's a must-see stop.

Uh oh, I've never heard of sock blanks or mitten blanks...I'd better scurry back under my rock! Anyway being in the dark on this I am really looking forward to seeing how it knits up!

That's beautiful. I should have done that when I made my son's mitts. I'm sure they won't be the last pair, LOL. Did she double strand the yarn, or is it mirror image, or do you can if the mitts match perfectly?
I have some yarn that's been waiting and waiting for me to knit up a sock blank and dye, I really should get to it! I think I was delaying because there's no where in my TV room to put the skein winder...but I bet I could machine knit with the wool on the skein winder! Doh!

Way cool. I've got a pink blank, for socks, I should pull out and do something with.

I don't know what to make of these "blanks". I would have a hard time knitting with the kinky yarn - it would probably throw my gauge off,or just make the stitches look messy which would throw me off. LOL!!

I've never used a sock blank - or a mitten blank. Isn't that the yarn seller's job to wind the yarn? I know. Lazy knitter. Have a great March Break.
