a new allergy

I was sick last week. Bad cough, chest congestion, bad enough that I took Friday off, and went to the doctor. Seems I have a virus, but he gave me a prescription cough syrup, with codeine.
Yeah, that was a mistake. Seems I have an allergy or aversion to codeine. Whatever it is, I was SICK.
Here's a quirk I have - I don't throw up. Ever. I really don't ever want to do it. It's been well over a decade since the last time. Until Friday. Man, that was a bad day.
Of course, my husband thinks this is funny, and all day I kept getting emails from him, checking on my "progress".
Funny guy, him...

Yes, I'm much better now - food is back to being my friend.

Test out the codeine thing at another time. Reason is, I had the same thing last Monday night. I, who "never" throw up, had projectile issues from both ends. Friends said there's something going around. It was really a bummer, also had fever and felt out of sorts for a few days. But the first day was really really awful. Hope you're all better now. I am. Codeine is rough. It doesn't make me physically ill, but it does give me hallucinatory nightmares (one of the side effects for some people.) I avoid it at all costs.

I don't do well with codeine either; but I also agree with giving it another shot at a time when you're not otherwise sick. It could be a different illness you've got.
I'm not a throw-er-upper either. It takes a lot to make me loose my cookies, but I do suffer from nausea and WANTING to throw up! Hope you feel better soon!

Codeine does that to me too. Ugh! Maybe you can try a hot toddy instead. They always help us to stop coughing. Mix a cup of hot water with a teaspoon of honey and some fresh lemon juice. You can add a shot of whiskey to it too. Sounds kinda funny and I'd never heard of it until I met my husband but it really works. I hope you start feeling better soon.

Hoping you feel better soon! I agree with Acorn to Oak on the honey & lemon toddy; it does work.

Oh YUK. This all sounds awful and very much like winter.

I too avoid codeine at all costs. I rather be in severe pain than take it. However because it was a cough syrup and you were ill rahter than in pain as was my case, I'd say try it again when you need a plain killer, or not at your doctors discretion.

But generally ewww.
